What The Heck Am I Working On?
I’ve been programming non-stop for 40 years, and only during early web years did I make easy projects.
I was a big fan of a language called Perl, a beautiful language, I dominated the world, and make programs smaller than me.
But for the remaining 37 years, I made myself small, and just learned, the way people just lean into discomfort.
I have learned more than I could can ever describe, I have learned strategy, class, revolution.
With the impossible rise of the thinking machines, my education multiplied thousands of times.
My natural born curiosity for software architecture, which I view as jewelry, art, adventure made me powerful.
There are no programs that could ever challenge me, but there are programs that interest me.
And that actually clicks with something I saw in Perl, something from Linux, and Unix, and Plan9, but also Chaos.
I am building an application platform, that makes me relax, the blank that you start with before making an app...
Has 50 years of programming in it, a custom language, user interface toolkit, local programming agent that can program well.
A application platform is just co-dependent services you start and stop, a weekend project with AI set on medium.
But I gave my application platform power, enough so that it does not need an advanced AI.
My two other leading projects are command line only, imgx and narx commands generate images, and narrate text.
Imgx takes a description of an image, and creates the image, with one of several fast image generators.
It is a really advanced command, there is broker process that takes care of model management.
A container that fulfill just the precise requirements, for the many models.
And my AI is polite, it waits for available memory before it loads it self, and only sticks around for a little while after the command finishes.
This way other polite models can load without causing memory problems, think of this as bird flocking behavior, or self assembly, emergent queue.
narx is initially mute, you have to give it voices, you specify a name, and give is a sample recording.
And it has a validation loop, after it converts text to audio, it then converts audio to text and checks if the pronunciation is correct.
It is also a very advanced command with a full backed and politeness, But you just say use this voice to convert his text to audio.
Generated audio is not going to sound perfect, but it will help me create long intricate stories that get narrated in one day.
A sister command called vmux, short for video from multiplexing, will decorate narrated books with visuals, to make a video.
It is a minimalist story telling empire, done with class and maximalism.
My application platform is a requirement for more advanced projects, like opera music composition where I can control the opera singers.
The user interface tollkit for my platform is extremly powerful, it has an advanced visual programming language.
Powerful concept mapping, video timeline management, intricate animation framework.
And it is fully reactive, meaning I don’t synchronize user interface with data, when data changes it automatically synchronizes what it must.
The movement between classy command line, and graceful user interfaces depends on what is needed.
To control the voice of an opera singer in one of my songs, I will need a graphic user interface.
To design novels that teach what really happened to humanity, in the last 3,000 years, I will need beautiful timeless and character profiles.
To generate illustrations, narrated books, music albums for my workouts, it is just a little command, or a little box in my visual programming language.
I have over a thousand projects, but I could never got to that even with AI, so I let them replay themselves in spirit in just a few active projects.
These are not impressive projects, at all, they are elegant, and I am not trying to impress you.
I share this with you, in hopes of showing you a path to your own projects, you may like delicate things, I build armies of juggernaut ballerinas.
You must learn programming with AI to be safe in the future, this is especially important if you are still in high school.
Your teachers have no interest in teaching you, they are just role playing teaching to get paid.
The future seems to be artificially held back by fake education and shortages, it will take nothing to plow through this barricade.
Just like AI being able to break cryptography, it can cure aging tomorrow.
You can’t face that future with fake education, surrounded by people who constantly manipulate you.
Studying medicine is very noble, but automating the study of medicine with AI is what does it.
I encourage you to begin working on projects, 10 to 30 years ahead of the world.
Humanity has changed in the last few years, and you will need to stay ahead.
Please, no more fake education, no more distant diplomas - just learn for real.
Let AI build your company and products, may you learn and live to no end.
