From The Moon To The Ladies
The Moon has a grumble, a gentle complaint, That he shines in the night for the world without faint, But the men hardly notice — and it is true, So he shines for the Ladies, as lovely as you, As you, As you, As you, He shines for the Ladies, as lovely as you.
"Come out!" said the Moon, "there are trails to be walked, There are parks to be wandered and lakes to be talked About under the stars in the silvery air, With the pine trees all humming and dew everywhere, Everywhere, Everywhere, With the pine trees all humming and dew everywhere."
"Pitch your tents," said the Moon, "by the dunes and the lakes, In the woods on the great hills where morning awakes With a view stretching out to the edge of the world, Where the mist rolls like ribbons all perfectly curled, All curled, All curled, Where the mist rolls! like ribbons all perfectly curled."
Now sometimes by day the Moon sneaks out to see Who is lacing their boots up and brewing their tea, Who is ready for adventure, who's packing their things — Then he brings out his shine and he dances and sings! And everyone has such a glorious time, A time, A time, And everyone! has such a glorious time.
He listens at bonfires to stories well told, Of adventures in jungles and mountains of gold, He ponders the wanderings over the sea, And he thinks, "What a world! What a place this could be, Could be, Could be," And he thinks, "What a world! What a place this could be."
"But what I really want," said the Moon with a sigh, "Is for all of you Ladies to look at the sky, To come love all of nature — the meadow, the stream — To come out for adventure as soon as Spring's gleam Melts the cold and the frost from the ground and the air, The air, The air, Melts the cold and the frost from the ground and the air."
No one is too young and no one is too old, There's adventure that beckons! Adventure untold! Mr. Moon, like a nanny, will keep you company, He'll be gentle and faithful and jolly and free, And free, And free, He'll be gentle and faithful and jolly and free.
So get your backpacks ready and may you walk steady, The trails and the campfires are waiting already! There is more to this world than you ever were told, There are wonders in rivers and forests of old, Of old, Of old, There are wonders in rivers and forests of old.
"And I promise," the Moon said, "to scare every bear, And I'll always be there with my light in the air, The camping and hiking trails wait for you, dear, And I promise — I promise — it's going to be great, Be great, Be great," Said the Moon to the Ladies, "it's going to be great."
So they packed by the light of the Moon, The Moon, The Moon, They packed by the light of the Moon. And they hiked by the light of the Moon, The Moon, The Moon, They danced by the light of the Moon, all the way until afternoon.
